Domain names
By now pretty much everybody knows what a domain name is, and how important
it can be. But just in case you don't we will explain it once more. A
domain name is a name or address on the Internet (world wide web)
via which a website can be accessed for example www.deMerkplaats.nl.
Such an Internet address - also known as URL - consists of several parts. It has a Top Level Domain (TLD), which is the highest part of an Internet address - in the above example that is the ending .nl. Every country has its own Top Level Domain, e.g. Germany uses .de, Italy uses .it, and Denmark uses .dk. In June 2000, there were 242 different country codes. There are also type indicators that are used as a TLD, such as the well-known .com, .org or .info and .biz.
If you wish to request a domain name for yourself, you can contact providers, such as Domeinbalie.nl
