Extension European trademark registration
On May 1 st 2004 some major changes took place in Europe.
On that date 10 new countries joined the European Union.
As a result of this, European trademark registration will automatically be extended to cover the 10 new European countries.
The new countries are: Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. See the enclosed illustration, or consult
http://europa.eu.int/comm/publications/posters/nl.pdf
In practical terms, this means that European trademark registration covers the 27 EU countries, so that 450 million consumers will fall under the scope of your trademark in one go.

To make quite sure that you have no problems with your trademark, you would of course be well-advised to ask us to carry out a EuroScan®. Based on this European trademark survey, we can clearly determine whether there are any older trademark holders and/or other problems.
During our telephone discussion of the survey results with you, we can then advise you as to whether a European trademark registration is the right route for you.
This geographical expansion also applies to European model protection, of course.
We will of course be delighted to talk to you and answer any questions that you may have.
