Welcome to digital Amsterdam. My name is Alphons Geerlings and I am one of the many Dutch trademark attorneys who have been busy organizing events for the INTA meeting that was held in our beautiful capital on May 3-7, 2003.

The 125th INTA meeting has been the first to ever be held outside North America. Amsterdam is proud to have been chosen as the location for this milestone event. More than 7,000 IP lawyers from over 200 countries have visited the INTA in Amsterdam.

What do you know about Amsterdam? Probably more than you realize. What about Heineken and Amstel beer? Or famous former residents such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Anne Frank? Or the thousands of multinationals like Shell, KLM and Philips that have their world headquarters here? What you may not know is that the Amsterdam-based Dutch East India Company actually became the world's first multinational back in the days when it was founding New Amsterdam (a.k.a. New York) in 1602.
