This unique film premiere took place in Amsterdam and simultaneously in Oman on the Dutch Naval vessel ip ‘de Zr. Ms Johan de Witt’. Just before the start of the show a live connection to the naval vessel was made. It’s for the first time in history that a premiere like this occurs. The helicopter deck of the ship was transformed into a cinema deck. There were more than 400 men aboard the ship. A beautiful setting for this special premiere.
Captain Philips tells the true story about a ship’s captain, who is held hostage by Somali pirates. At the same time the marine vessel ‘de Zr. Ms Johan de Witt’ is in the Indian Ocean on an anti-piracy mission.
World famous actor Tom Hanks plays Captain Philips, whose ship was hijacked in 2009 by Somali pirates. The movie is about the anxious hours of the captain and his crew. It was very special and inspiring to experience this premiere together with 200 mariners. I spoke to very proud mariners afterwards at the bar of the cinema Tuschinski.
It isn’t coincidence that the navy shows a film about piracy. The ‘de Zr. Ms Johan de Witt’ is dealing with piracy for months already and appreciate the attention.
