Last week the 26th yearly International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) was held. This edition of IDFA is the best visited in the history of the festival; 220.000 visitors!
While other film festivals in Rotterdam and Utrecht have to deal with stagnating visitor numbers, IDFA is more popular than ever. This of course is due to the wide range of locations Amsterdam has. For example a few clients of de Merkplaats like Toomler® and Melkweg®. The new film institution EYE® joined this year for the first time.
The main price of the festival, which is the VPRO Idfa Award, was won by ‘Song from the forest’ from producer Michael Obert. The documentary is about an American, who takes his son to New York, after living in the forest for 25 years.
At de Merkplaats we are a huge fan of films and documentaries and we are very proud that we have the Institution of International Documentary Festival Amsterdam for years in our ‘Film portfolio’. They are there in good company with among others the Amsterdam Fimweek and the Nederlandse Film Festival. On behalf of de Merkplaats we congratulate our client IDFA with again a successful year. The next edition of the festival is already planned and will take place November 19, 2014.
